Weather is one of the key factors that
influences management decisions affecting
nursery field operations. In recognition of
this, the Application Technology Research Unit
began development of a Research Weather Network
at various locations in Northern Ohio in 2000.
In cooperation with local production nurseries
and Ohio State University’s (OSU) Ohio
Agricultural Research Development Center (OARDC),
the ARS Research Weather Network is providing
data used to predict and monitor local weather
events that directly impact issues related to
the nursery industry.
The USDA weather
network is integrated into the OSU/OARDC
network, bringing the total number of stations
to 19, 16 of which are currently active.
